Although have been exposed to cadavers and many specimens of the different body parts in the anatomy lab in the 1st & current semester, we had our 1st session of cadaver dissection today. Only got to operate on the upper limb for today. Gosh, I can still "smell" the strong formalin emulating from the cadavers. My friend actually told me during lunch at the table that her friend told her b4 that it smelt like the chinese preserved meat/ sausage but one that was over-preserved!?! Definitely not manz! It should be much more worse than that...
My lab gown was stained brown slightly by all the dissected subcutaneous fat. Had to admit that the cadaver that I was dissecting on was really fat. There's such a thick layer of fats & skin in the arm and plam which made it all the more difficult to see the different structures or even find them. Bits & pieces of dirty yellow fats + rotting skin were practically strewn everywhere around the whole arm. Made me realised that the dissectors had truly put in hard work in preparing the nicely dissected specimens. Hmm future dissection sessions to come..maybe will start to get use to the smell?! hahaz nonetheless, think anatomy lab sessions are fun & really interactive.
We got to massage each other yesterday for our physio prac lesson, mainly on the upper back and leg. Our 1st massage & might be the only one for this sem.. Didn't realise that my trapezius muscle (at the shoulder) was so tight but had a good rub & pressure on it :P For this semester, we seemed to be focusing more on assessment & palpation. But it seemed like we'll be given cases where they'll basically incorporate everything (includ. 1st sem) plus massage into exam. Everything taught or learnt would be continously being assessed instead ~ esp during clinics..pls I need some super memory power! 'o'
Think the water that I drank today felt like it's the cleaniest and healthiest ever since I've stopped using my previous kettle in the middle of my 1st sem. hahaz coz I just bought this water filtering jug and a new electric kettle today. Had been drinking tap water ever since the inside of my previous $10 electric kettle had turned horribly yellow and with more than half of the heating coil rusted. Think I realised about the rusting part rather late..argh I might have consumed considerable bits of the silver lining of the coil already :P
Just came back a while ago from the PowerSave Party.. hahaz coz we helped to save quite a sum of money for the college electricity bills after having an active powersaving campaign with all water & electricity saving posters pasted simply everywhere. Had the free cooked instant mee goreng and food e.g. chocolates! After the live band started to play, people began to flood in slowly. There is in fact a LAN party going on simultaneously also.. which is going to extend into the weekend including the entire night. There are only a few people playing on their laptops when a few of us went to pop in. It looks kinda pathetic with ~4 laptops on thr big table in the big tutorial room. But they were saying that it's gonna be flooded only towards or past midnight. By that time, the "killing" atmosphere could be really tense. hahaz hmm can imagine :P
Happy National Day!
Singapore has turned 41! & IH actually celebrated it! :D It was held on 8th Aug where we had high table dinner. It was made possible by 1 of our tutor who is a Singaporean and he initiated and organized it. We got to decide the menu for the dinner. Recipes were given to the kitchen. Hmm although they don't taste authentic at all, but guess they were passable?!? hahaz at least they did give me the feeling of being back at home, especially when the different national day songs were being played and we tried to sing and hum along to them :) There are 25 Singporeans in IH (thought there were more!)~ while there are thrice as many Malaysians instead :P
On the actual day 9th Aug itself, I wore red to school (of coz!) hahaz yup along with a few other fellow Sporeans from physio too. We ate dinner in Nasi Lemak House (a restaurant specialising in nasi lemak from malaysia) not bad but found it quite spicy :P It's quite rare to have really spicy stuff here & heard from a few of them that somehow the rice was not as fragrant as before. Maybe coz the rice had been left for quite some time since it's already at night.
We tried to watch the NDP through the online webcast in my friend's apartment but it failed. Arghzzz. It kept buffering and we simply couldn't get the connection. That's so terrible. heez we ended up watching "House" on tv & playing pool in e common room.
If I'm back in S'pore on nat day, I'll definitely be out watching the fireworks or catching the live screening of NDP somewhere out on the open fields with oac or etc. I miss those times! Although I can say that I'm having fun while enjoying & enriching myself with the different living and schooling experience here [: ( minus the times of stress+workload], I do MISS Singapore! Can't believe it ~ I've finished a semester & it's only 4 mths away to going back!
:) the 2 high tables of Singaporeans where we had wine & orange juice served
singing along with steph as she performed "Where I Belong" by Tanya
the fact sheet on each table which Jeanette & I created :)

starter: nonya kueh - followed recipe & made by IH (think it's left for quite some time..the glutinous rice was kind of hard)
hainanese chicken rice cooked by IH..although doesn't taste authentic at all heez nevertheless a gd effort still
dessert: bobochacha - haha it looked really different, without all the yam & coloured pieces of transparent flour (they cooked it in the early afternoon & all e sago made it sticky)

the Langkawi nasi lemak I ate at the Nasi Lemak House - delicious squids!
it's census day of the Aus population on that day also which is conducted every 5 yrs..everyone had to up up this booklet of Qs after dinner..hahaz being lame here..not that I particularly like to do the census :P
Farm Stay!
This is the farm stay at Amy's place at Leogatha; a 2 hr bus ride away from Melbourne city. It's in the countryside with sooo many hills and contours around and animals! hahaz saw mainly sheep, cows, horses and we saw small kangaroos too while on the drive to her house. They're so cute but disappeared real fast. A 3 day 2 night stay, relaxing and definitely away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Time seemed to pass much slower. Having meals together with the family at the table, playing board games, watching movies, reading magazines, going for walks with the dogs, shopping around in the town and of coz going around the dairy farm!
several cows in one of the plot of lands in the farm
pippa the adorable house dog! look at its innocent eyes haha but can be really mischievous & always so hyperactive

pippa actually posed with us!

cows grazing on the contours

walking with the dogs - Pippa & Charlie

a totally hazy foggy day

in our overalls trying to feed the calves milk from the buckets but of no avail.. Amy's dad said that coz they're newborns & still not used to drinking milk
"What are you staring at?" moos the cow which was waiting to be milked :P

a cow in labour - heez can you spot the hooves of the calf wrapped in amnion?

we actually spotted a cow's placenta in the midst of the pathway in the open fields!!

a calf which was born in the morning with its umbilical cord still attached

my fav calf of all.. sooo cute! still learning how to moo as it's mooing sounds more like a horse neighing

the chickens reared which really do produce eggs! haha
