laz day of work

time really flies manz..it's my laz day of work alr! hahaz i mean officially coz will be coming back to help out for e open hse nex tue (heez double pay leh) & have been at SHM for ~~6mths..whoa tt's half a yr! had fun here & learnt lotsa stuff =) got to noe a lot of pple & made gd frens (hahaz though they r older..most in late twenties alr but tink they look younger :P)

it's a diff kind of experience for me. was exposed to the arts & cultural scene in S'pore & changed my perception of e museum. heez tink e laz time i've stepped into Ss'pore history museum was when I was in Pri sch??? at e old building there & e only thing I remembered abt my visit then was the dioramas =P worked at the temp site at Clarke Quay & witnessed for myself how the museum is revamping and going in a totally diff direction. it doesn't juz present history of s'pore..was amazed at the wide array of programmes & activities tt r organised for all ages.. & there was in fact much emphasis on targeting youths - be it the Soul to Soul or barbie doll bridal gown competition, phunk studio exhibition, FLIP challenge, blah blah & there r also valentine day programs eg sex talk?!? hahaz & advice for first date, bumboat speed-dating?!? gosh do u expect a museum to hav dis kind of events? =D they'll be moving to the newly renovated, nice & big building in march alr..too bad it was after i've left =S heez but definitely will go back & visit them when I come back at the end of e yr. hahaz they even said tt they'll ask me to work there when I come back for hols :P

had a variety of job scope at shm..my main task was actually e facilitation of e Rivertales mystery detective game for schs. hahaz it was fun. I solved mystery when I played it for e 1st time! Basically, I briefed e students on how to play e game..they'll den find e answers from a exhibition outside & also from e various witnesses. At times, when they r primary sch kids, I'll give them hints & help them out. After ard 45min, they'll go to a computer room for e finale where they'll solve e mystery. there'll always be resounding cheers & shouts from the grps who had won hahaz =D sometimes there r foreign students also e.g. german students on exchange, caucasians, e blacks, japanese, scholars frm china....Besides e game, helped out at e programming dept, had duties at times for e various events or had to go to other venues. eg moe auditorium for e drama history competition. It's defintitely not a desk-bound job hahaz glad for that =P

was surprised tt I stayed on for so longggg.. as compared to my previous ones heez coz e time's very flexible & e pple there r nice! hahaz got a prezzie from them.. shall open it at home =P I made a small gift for each of them heez. shall pass to them on tue (can't finish making =P)
gonna miss all of them hahaz. but guess it's now a relief also coz got time to pack alr! phew~ oops need to go and facilitate my laz sch booking for e game now~tada!

Past job ExPeriences

whoa.. temped at shm for 6mths! was surprised tt I stayed on for so longggg..had been "temping" at various places for e past yr..din touch sch work for a full yr too! maybe only when I was giving tuition :P now had to go back to studying soon ~ brain "rusty" alr! hahaz shall do a recap of my past work experiences:

worked at CPF board tampines branch since Dec laz yr, learnt a lot abt cpf stuff & how it actually works. heh even had to attend training sessions 4 a few days. & met lotsa fellow recent A level grads also =) really enjoyed their company.. e times we went out to have a good meal or shopping ard tampines central ( heez nice place to shop ~ so many types of food & variety of boutiques!) or catching a movie.. had a nice & humorous supervisor who always treated us to stuff & got intro to multi-level mkting thru her.. though it seems promising to be able to reap profits but hahaz din hav e time to commit it to it..

my cpf-mates!

after e ERS peak period, my fren & I went together to work at IRAS (another statutory board =p din planned for it though).. both of us kind of like job-hop frm cpf coz pay higher =P applied for e admin side coz I've tried frontline alr..& manz I regretted it. was attached to the self-employed dept where we had to screen(check for errors in calculation, their statement of accounts etc.) the forms tt r sent in for tax filing. had to attend 2 wks of training sessions where we juz sit down & listen to accounting/taxing stuff & occasionally tried a few sums/ practised screening e forms..arghz tink i'm like attendin an accounting lecture??? hahaz but I did learn a lot of stuff on taxes & accounting.. finally we were able to screen the forms sent in but it only lasted a few days.. & we had to attend training for screening of another form!!! attended for ~1 wk & my fren & I decided to quit hahaz but still it's a gd experience lar :P oh 1 more pt to add: tink e food sold at the foodcourt there's not bad!

heh niwae soon after tt went to work at ghim li global, a merchandisin MNC.. dis time rd went to work there knowing nobody but din realise tt my cousin also works there! hahaz yupz it's at changi business park there.. quite inaccesible but coz got company bus to & fro frm my house heez so very convenient =) was helpin out at various depts & sometime busy sometimes rather slack heez. got exposed to more "intense" office politics though but got a few nice & funny colleagues still & got to noe 2 temps who r on ord also :P glad to work w all of them. learnt quite some admin/computer skills & realise 1 thing also..turnover rate 4 merchandising industry's very high! kept seeing pple leaving & new employees coming in.. left juz in time to go & crash nus sports camp :p hahaz den started applyin for jobs.. & soon calls kept coming in again..chose e one at shm instead of all e others. tink e rest shld be all e boring admin/misc stuff ba got 1 at law firm also but guess shld be e same..hahaz yup den stayed on till now..my longest job committment ya :)

Presentation ceremony

had MOH presentation ceremony on laz wed late afternoon.. same as usual went there str after work :P din realise tt it's so formal heez & supposed to pin these nice orchids with my name tag onto my blouse. chatted with the other scholars before finally moving into the auditorium.. 2 scholars who r working in e HQ shared their experiences w us while waiting.. kinda told us how their career path was like & how we can actually go or specialise in diff fields..din noe tt besides e clinical aspect there's e public admin part tt we may try out also.. which was wat they r doing at present.. one of them did a postgrad in public admin even if his degree's tt of health science..we can also expect rotation among the diff hosp in e cluster. glad abt tt as believe can den gain better & new experiences :)

it's e shortest ceremony tt i've ever been to..30 min! hahaz short & sweet.. (got to noe from a senior who mentioned tt during their time they had to put up a play heh seems like it's a diff thing 4 my year) :P was presented w a plaque. throughout e ceremony, cameras & flashes were everywhere :) my mum, 2 of my aunties & my 2 cute cousins came. took photo w them using the cameraman's pro cam. several grp photos were taken with his cam also..heh waiting 4 e photos to come in den can post =P guess e long part is actually e reception afterwards...hahaz coz it's in fact a session of networking manz.. w either the seniors/working scholars/staff from singhealth/MOH blah blah.. usually e same Q pops up "prepared for overseas alr? how's ur packing?"

whoa can say I'm nowhere near packing at all. =P juz managed to pack my sch or JCstuff away only. been shopping alot. bought lotsa clothes!! gosh can say it's e most no. of clothes tt I've bought within such a short time span! & e gd thing is that now's e big SALE period hahaz so had many gd bargains =D.. listed down stuff tt I need to get b4 flying. seems endless ~~ heez wonder how I'm going to squeeze them into my big lugguage ( hopefully it's big enuf & tt everything won't exceed baggage limit!) yesh shall diligently get on to my packing.. but 1st I'll hav to finish my reading! > Sophie's World > Harry Potter > comics > hahaz if not can't return them on time & may end up bringin them w me to melb :P

a HappENIng! Fri the 13th

finally had time to blog..hahaz. past 2 wks had been so hectic, rushing here & there either going for outings or gatherings or settling my uni stuff or going down to MOH.. phew! esp memorable would be Friday the 13th! =D it's such a mad rush day for me..went to work in the morning after which I rushed down to seng kang for my driving lesson =P (arghz but becoz of this had to miss Singhealth briefin) and den head down straight to MOH for a pre-departure briefing.

saw the other scholars after wat feels like quite a long time since I last saw them and realised that there r 2 other guys going on the same year too! hahaz coz it was an all-gals grp during OBS and heard tt e guys somehow can't make it due to NS..
tink it's rather useful :) had a pre-departure briefing from IDP. kinda summarises the things to note and expect when going to Aus..heez guess there shld be no need for me to attend the IDP one on sat alr..
and there's this policeman from CNB who came to talk to us on.....DRUGS! hahaz of coz to advise us on how to avoid taking them, intro to us the kinds of drugs & their variations & the danger of takin them. warned us esp of the large scale of drug abuse in Aus & UK. hmz & it's definitely out of control manz! as compared to S'pore's..kk shall take extra precaution & BeWare :P

there's this session on stress management by a psychologist from IMH.. she studied in Aus also and told us abt her experiences.. including her dorm living. Similarly, there r 2 working scholars who shared their experiences with us also & got to know the style of living or Australian culture more.. tink the esp comical part was that the smoke alarms in the halls or their rooms really went off at the slightest trigger! hahaz :D eg steam/heat juz after finishing a heated shower or even when someone smokes in their room (=X it's prohibited!) and the fire engine will come! gosh den they'll all hav to share the cost of the false alarm & it's really ex =S
it ended late and again had to rush... to (my workplace) NHB's DnD at Pan Pac.was late but luckily still hadn't started.heez my sec sch prom was held at e same place too! & coz of this had to forgo going back to hc for campfire! bishz another clash of events. nonetheless had fun at e DnD. heh 1st time in a corporate DnD unlike e past which I've been to r all sch proms.. and the theme's "Retro"! wow 1st time saw such a varied retro style of dressing & there's dis table which hand-made their costumes! they were all clad in "exaggerated" shiny & glittering tops & dresses/pants & heavy make-up..hahaz tink they looked like a retro band preparing for their performance. Of coz their efforts paid off as they won the bez dressed table =P

they were promoting this free photo-taking juz outside the ballroom and some of us sitting at my table went to take a glamour photo shoot together! hahaz the camerman were telling us to strike diff poses.. & here it is! this is the one that I've while the rest had photos of our other poses.. took it with my camera when at home..which reminds me - forgot to bring my camera on that day wasted! =(

glamour shoot!

there were a few rounds of lucky draws and the prizes r definitely not bad manz..started w vouchers & going on to electronic appliances..X BoX! LCD Tv, stereo systems, holiday getaways, air tickets blah blah.. arghz but I'm not entitled to lucky draws *so sad* hahaz but glad for those who had won [SHM did grab quite a no. of e prizes :P] & to be able to attend the DnD :)

we had food in a buffet style and have to admit tt it's heavenly delicious! hahaz it was a mix of western & chinese food..w some cold dishes, lamb chops, sambal prawns, sweet & sour pork, asparagus soup & many others tt I couldn't rem alr.. had to say tt e dessert was the bez heez had all the small slices of diff cakes/choc tt you could ever imagine, cheesecakes, tiramisu..can't rem wat e rest r also but I juz knew tt they r yummilicious!

In the middle of the DnD, a woman dressed in a striking red cheongsam and 6-inch high red heels suddenly appeared on stage to sing some chinese oldies. thot tt she's juz there to sing hahaz but end up she's an entertainer too! really funny in her own way and with her witty words.. she continued the facilitation of games & cracked some lame jokes along the way hahaz. den she sang this popular hokkien song "ai4 ping1 cai2 hui4 ying2" as a means by NHB to motivate them to work harder??? hahaz..tink e most unexpected part was her finishing song "I'll survive" when she took off her cheongsam & ended up clad in a sexy black top & miniskirt!! all of us in the ballroom were like *jaws dropping*..wat? hahaz coz I tink we din expect a heritage board to actually allow this kind of entertainment..hmz seems like they r really taking a more open approach to doing things & running of museums ya ;) den she was dancing sexy moves and even went up to a guy & invite him to dance with her..hahaz so funny e enthu guy kept doing dis particular hilarious shaking action to complement her dance moves..

Throughout the whole DnD, there were a series of games in which e whole ballroom of people were divided into 2 grps and we competed against each other to gain as many pts as possible. some of e games were blowing up balloons & towering them up as high as possible w/o any other aid/strings, joining alphabets from A to Z using newspapers, runnin up to e chair with the desired pic on newspaper, guessing song names of oldies & etc. Finally, it ended with the draw of the 1st prize: a package trip for 2 to Turkey! :] had lotsa fun, ate nice food and seen for myself maybe how a corporate dinner's like..bonding w my colleagues too and had a door gift (small traveller bag but got logo..heh maybe shall iron some pic over it)..only reached home at 12.30am & w tt ended my packed yet exciting day!

my Driving~TesT =D

yippie!!! *yeah* now a qualified driver..I can drive legally already! find it hard to believe it myself.hahaz. my 2nd trial for e test & was worried that I couldn't pass it in time b4 I leave for aus..heez guess I didn't make e wrong decision to take up driving in S'pore though it's said to be more demanding than aus's??

did perfect for my circuit, so was rather relaxed but didn't let down my guard coz usually it's e road which had all e unforseen circumstances & hidden "tricks".. my test route had quite a few yellow boxes and phew!managed to notice them & stop juz outside e boxes. Moreover, didn't come across this narrow 2 lane road which only allows you to turn left on the left lane. luckily noticed the left turn arrows on the left lane when I need to go straight so didn't keep to the left lane.. heez if not with the so many "traps" I might have immediate failures already =P my only mistake was when on the road back to the circuit there was this car in front of me which suddenly stopped and wanted to turn right. I was right behind & rather close to it. I tried to angle my way pass it as there were several cars behind me & was afraid tt I would be penalised for hogging up traffic. as a result, I was penalised for changing lane abruptly and following too closely - in total 12 demerit pts?! hehz but luckily still pass =D

had to say my very 1st trial was damn unlucky manz.. arghz.. kinda no choice coz wan an early date so had to take up e evening peak hour session where I need to avoid using the bus lanes. On that day itself, it rained somemore. gosh! visibility was much reduced but managed to still park & do my circuit nicely.. I was assigned route 7 which invloved the main roads & need to change lanes here & there & it's during e peak hour? but the tester didn't go as assigned. he made me go to this weird combination of roads that he came up with. My ultimate killer: There was a test car in front of me that didn't turn left when it was already green light! (no filter lane) After waiting for quiet some time alr, it finally turned & I followed. BUT e traffic light turned amber when I was turning!!! oh manz. althought I was past the 1st rd arrow or stopline, the tester said that I shld have anticipated the light to turn amber after waiting for such a long time - so 8 pts gone!! 8pts! arghz. had 22 demerit pts in total. hiaz if only I was in front of tt test car or didn't had tt 8pts deducted.

:) but glad tt everything went smoothly this time round. heeh no chance to practise in S'pore (no car =S) hahaz. maybe can drive in aus but my mum kinda dun allow coz she feels tt it's very dangerous to drive there *blehz* hmz dunno shall see how also & if there's a need for me to drive there =P

king kong goldclass!!!

=D watched King Kong at goldclass great world city yesterday with meiyue! coz got free tics heh if not dun tink i'll even go & spend e 25 or 30 so bucks to go and watch.. so ex!

hahaz have to say that it's a truly enjoyable movie experience manz! =P was really pure luxury.. with the spacious, soft & comfortable armchair and munching away popcorn, nachos, coke... heavenly ~~~
though heard some of my frens said tt e movie's draggy & kinda over-rated but in my opinion tink e movie's really gd! moreover i saw good reviews for e movie also. really like Peter Jackson's movies! esp his Lord of the Rings too! hahaz can say he's one of my fav movie director =) love e way he creates suspense in his movies & e super realistic CGs & sound effects..e king kong looked so real also and had such a humane touch, with his scars & injuries so realistic.. kinda sad to see him being captured and die as a result of e selfish acts of humans =S

In King Kong, e part where they encountered all e horroneous & murderous creatures (giant cockroaches, mosquitoes, centipedes, slimy worm-like thing yucks! etc. ) was kinda terrifying arghz tink we screamed for some parts *blehz* can't believe that they r even chased by T-Rex! wow heez tink e Skull Island has been rather exaggerated in that dinosaurs also exist together with e king kong.??.haha but nonetheless entertaining and exciting.. theatre was freezing cold but luckily had a blanket over me - something nice for me to grab/hug esp during e suspense filled scenes =P
